This series is open to all who are interested in recovery, whether your own or someone you care about, or if you work with people in recovery. We will be exploring how mindfulness can deepen one’s connection to the present moment, to be more focused and aware, to work with difficult emotions, feelings, thoughts in a more skillful way, to face challenges with more balance, and to treat oneself and others with more compassion. We will focus on learning meditation practices to support recovery, such as Lovingkindness Meditation, Letting Go and Forgiveness Meditation, Compassion Meditation and Gratitude Meditation. We will also explore how poetry, journaling, drawing mandalas, and music and guided imagery may also help in the recovery process.
The series will be facilitated by Erin Johnson, LPC. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has a private practice in Charlottesville, and who works at Roads to Recovery once a month. She and her colleague, Cara Marinucci, LPC, offer workshops and training on these meditation practices and expressive arts approaches through the Integrative Music Institute .
